Anyhoo, I’m trying to write a paper. Due tomorrow. Last month, when I found myself in the exact same predicament, I swore I wouldn’t put myself through the misery of rushing to meet a deadline by starting something the day before it was due. And then failing to make the deadline (obviously). Then pulling an all-nighter to try and hand something in before the late penalties negated any marks received for the paper. Followed by an attempt at being productive at work after the all-nighter**. Which inevitably led to copious amounts of red wine being consumed to drown out the self-loathing I felt knowing that I had submitted something which was half-assed, pathetic and contained grammar errors***.

Yet, here I am. Again. De ja vu. Only, it’s my own doing. Ooh, but checkit – pretty clouds!

So, how’s your year been thus far?

* Btw, that’s the argument i’ll be using when submitting my overdue assignment this week. I’m on word zero of 10, 000. Unless we count the whole ‘A research design submitted to the department of information systems…blah blah” bit.

** And discovering that I am no longer the spring chicken I used to be.

*** Apparently, I “seem to get plurals wrong quite often”. FYI, I don’t take criticism well. I am one step away from finding the perfect Android app to grammar check my sentences before I speak them.

* i spend an average of 2 hours per day driving between the office and home. it’s getting to me. and the news that i have to spend R2000 today on The Car just so that this commute is possible – NOT HELPING!!

Malmesbury is a bustling “dorpie”* just outside of Cape Town. We drove through the town a few weeks ago, en route to Riebeek Kasteel. Maan, i looove little dorpies!! The people are always friendly**, and polite, and seem so care-free. And there are always quaint little food shops, from old school take-away joints to cozy curio and craft stores. I can wander around for hours, perfectly content with killing time by doing nothing specific.

On this day, we stopped off at one of the churches in the area, because it was just so pretty – a stark white building, surrounded by these giant trees bursting with purple blossoms. We walked around in the garden a bit, and discovered the grave sites of some towns people – with gravestones dating back to the early 1800s!***

* well, i suspect it no longer qualifies as a dorpie actually – it’s evolved into a proper town now!
** surrre, they are also mostly drunk, and usually passed out by around 12pm on Saturdays – this is the one thing i don’t like though. the racial divide is really evident in small towns, and unfortunately, alcohol abuse is just one of the resultant issues, but i don’t want to get into this now (especially, as i sit here sipping on my second vodka for the evening).
